Sebastian Peiter Managing Director of Urban Canyons came to London in 1989 to complete an MA in Television Production at Middlesex University. He started his television career by producing and directing youth and arts documentaries for UK and Continental broadcasters. In 1998, after working as an in-house Director for the BBC Arts department, Sebastian became one of the two Partners of SPTV, who secured the URBANATION youth culture series from the Swiss state broadcaster. The contract pioneered PACT agreements enabling independent production companies to keep their intellectual copyrights.
Since 1998, the original URBANATION series ran weekly for five years. An 18x25’ series has sold to over 20 broadcasters including Canal+, National Geographic, Discovery Asia, Zee TV India, Globosat Brazil and helped to launch Al Gore’s Current TV in the States.
Since 2004, Sebastian has produced arts documentaries on architect Zaha Hadid, conceptual artist Thomas Hirschhorn, fake celebrity photographer Alison Jackson, the Mori ModernArt Museum in Tokyo and many more.
In 2006, Sebastian Peiter completed the ‘Building the Creative Business’ course held at London Business School. As a result of the course, Sebastian launched the Manchester based production and distribution company URBAN CANYONS LTD. The company is the media partner for UK talent showcase www.NOISEfestival.com.
Since its launch, Urban Canyons attended international TV markets in America and Europe, distributing in-house and third party content. 2009 saw the book launch of GUERILLA ART, based on an in-house TV documentary of the world’s most influential street artists, which was premierd on ABC Australia and NRK Norway. Banksy licensed footage of the film for his EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP release.
Urban Canyons is currently securing co-pro funding for a new URBANATION 13x25min HD series and history doc NINJA 1x50min, covering the secret war between Ninja and Samurai.
